Milan Duomo tours: what a guided visit includes

A Milan Duomo tour is worth booking if you want the stories behind the marble. The cathedral's operator, the Veneranda Fabbrica, runs a 90-minute guided visit that covers the cathedral, the archaeological area and the terraces, with fast-track access. It is offered in English, French, Spanish and German. A second, shorter walk goes among the spires on the roof only.

Not every guided tour includes the roof, and a guide and fast-track entry are two different products. Check what your booking includes. Prices below are for 2026 and can change.

For most first-time visitors who want a guide, the 90-minute visit is the better pick: it covers the church, the archaeological area and the roof. The spires walk suits you if you have seen the inside and want the terraces explained. If you prefer your own pace and want the museum, the self-guided Combo Stairs costs less. Start times of the roof walk vary, with 17:00 among them, so check the slot for your date.

What to check before you book a tour

Five questions that avoid surprises.

Is the roof included?

Only some guided visits reach the terraces. Read the includes list, and see our rooftop guide for the lift and stairs.

Is the entry ticket included?

A guide and an entry ticket are different products. Confirm whether the price covers both.

What does fast-track mean?

It gives priority access, not a promise of no wait and not a way around the security check. Weather and safety rules still apply on the roof.

Which language?

The roof walk is offered in English only. The longer visit runs in four languages.

Do you have your own guide?

Groups with their own guide must reserve through the group channel. The dress code of the cathedral applies to everyone. See tickets.

Beyond the Duomo on foot

The center is compact.

Many visitors add a walk around the Duomo: the glass arcade of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Teatro alla Scala and Piazza Mercanti. The city also offers a walking route over the arcades and Via Mengoni. Our nearby page lists twelve ideas. If you want to combine the cathedral with Leonardo's painting, read Duomo and Last Supper, because that needs its own booking. For trips out of the city, day trips from Milan have their own guide.

Milan Duomo tours: frequently asked questions

How long is a Duomo tour?

The guided visit with cathedral, archaeological area and terraces takes 90 minutes. The walk among the spires on the roof takes 60 minutes.

Does a Duomo tour include the roof?

Some do. The 90-minute fast-track visit and the spires walk include the terraces. Other tours may not, so read the includes list.

Is a guided tour better than the Combo ticket?

It depends. A guide gives context and saves time at the entrance. The Combo Stairs ticket at €22 adds the museum and San Gottardo and leaves you free to go at your own pace.

In which languages are tours offered?

The longer visit is offered in English, French, Spanish and German. The roof walk is offered in English.

Can I book a guided visit on the day?

Availability depends on the date and time, and nothing is guaranteed. Book ahead for busy periods.

Is milan-duomo.com an official tour operator?

No. This is an independent guide with no link to the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano or any tour company. Prices here are tariffs for 2026.
