Milan Duomo opening hours at a glance

The Milan Duomo opening hours are simple for the main parts: the cathedral, the rooftop terraces and the archaeological area open every day from 9:00 to 19:00. The last entry is at 18:00. The Duomo Museum and the chapel of San Gottardo open from 10:00 to 19:00, also with last entry at 18:00, and they are closed on Wednesdays.

The cathedral is a working church, so special services, weather and official requirements can change the timetable on a given day. Check the current timetable before you go, and book a time slot if your ticket includes the roof. For prices and passes, see the Duomo tickets page.

Longer roof hours in spring and summer

Not every day follows the standard timetable.

What applied in 2026

On selected days the terraces stayed open until 20:00, with last ticket sale at 18:50, entry until 19:00 and clearing from 19:30. Those days were 3 to 6 April, 25 and 26 April, 1 to 3 May, 30 May to 2 June, and every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5 June to 13 September 2026.

Thursday evenings

From 11 June 2026 there were separate music openings on Thursdays. Do not assume the same hours apply on other evenings.

What to do for your trip

Longer hours apply to the roof only, not to the whole complex. If you travel in spring or summer, look at the calendar for your dates before you pick a time slot.

Dress code and security check

Short, but worth knowing before you queue.

What to wear

Sleeveless or low-cut clothing, shorts, miniskirts and hats are not allowed in the cathedral. Wear comfortable shoes if you go up to the roof.

What to bring

Bags are opened and metal items go in the tray. Suitcases, large bags and backpacks, helmets, glass objects, weapons and drones are not allowed. Food and drink are not allowed either, with water and medication as exceptions.

Milan Duomo opening hours: frequently asked questions

What time does the Milan Duomo open?

The cathedral, the rooftop terraces and the archaeological area open at 9:00 every day. The museum and San Gottardo open at 10:00 and are closed on Wednesdays.

What is the last entry?

The last entry is at 18:00 for the cathedral, the roof, the archaeological area and the museum. Ticket sales end a few minutes earlier. Arrive well before that, because the security check takes time.

Is the Duomo open on Sundays?

Yes. The cathedral, the roof and the archaeological area keep the same hours on Sundays. Services take place at set times, and the Scurolo di San Carlo has Sunday hours that vary, so do not plan around it.

Is the Duomo closed on Wednesdays?

No. Only the museum and San Gottardo are closed. On Wednesdays a cathedral-only ticket is sold, and the roof stays open.

Can I arrive late for my roof time slot?

The booked time is the time for entering the roof. Your ticket terms allow up to 30 minutes before or after, at the operator's discretion, so do not count on any leniency.

Is this the official Duomo website?

No. This is an independent visitor guide. The cathedral is run by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, which publishes the current timetable and sells tickets at its own ticket offices.
