The Duomo Museum in the Palazzo Reale

The Duomo Museum, the Museo del Duomo, is not inside the cathedral. It is in the ground floor of the Palazzo Reale at Piazza Duomo 12, next to the church. It shows original works from the cathedral, including the cathedral treasure, sculptures, historic stained glass windows and architectural models. The museum opened in 1953 and reopened after a redesign in 2013.

The museum is part of the standard visit: the ticket for the cathedral, the museum and the chapel of San Gottardo costs €10 in 2026, or €5 reduced. It is not a roof ticket. For the terraces, see the rooftop terraces and the full ticket overview.

What the collection shows

The route starts with the treasure and ends with the models.

The museum route begins with the treasure of the cathedral chapter. After it come sculptures, stained glass windows, paintings, tapestries, architectural models, terracotta and plaster models. The sculptures are original works from the cathedral, so you see them close up rather than from the distance of the roof.

The museum is a good partner to the visit inside the cathedral. If you want to see the windows or the statues in detail, this is where to do it. See what the church interior offers on the inside page.

The online fee for individual tickets was dropped on 1 April 2025, so tickets cost the same online and at the ticket office. Combo contents can vary slightly. Check on the booking page that the museum is part of the product you pick.

Free on the last Sunday of the month

New since 27 September 2026, and only for the museum.

The rules

The museum is free on the last Sunday of each month, from 10:00 to 19:00 with entry until 18:00. You need a reservation. Reservations open from the preceding Tuesday, with up to 2 tickets per booking and up to 3 bookings per day. Tickets are personal. Remaining tickets may be available at the ticket office on the day.

What it does not cover

It does not include the roof, the church extras or any combo. Entry to the whole complex is not free.

San Gottardo in Corte

A small chapel with a tall tower.

San Gottardo in Corte was the palace chapel of Azzone Visconti. It was built in 1336 to a design by Francesco Pecorari. It holds the tomb of Azzone Visconti and has a Lombard Gothic bell tower in terracotta. A visit is part of the museum ticket, but it is a separate place beside the Palazzo Reale. It is closed on Wednesdays like the museum.

The treasure cases and the stone saints in the museum fit well with this stop. Allow time for both.
